Plot
During the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich (Germany), the American sports broadcasting team had to adapt to the live broadcast of Israeli athletes taken hostage by a terrorist group. “Saturday evening” is a film about the creation of the very first show “Saturday evening live”.
This is, without a doubt, a strong film, but it is difficult to imagine who might be its audience
While “Saturday Night” relies on the humor of the SNL creation, “September 5” is, for obvious reasons, devoid of any comedy. Instead, this is a truly serious story about the ABC sports news team covering the Olympic Games, where the initially festive atmosphere turns to horror when gunmen storm the athletes’ village and start shooting at the Israelis.
And let’s face the truth: neither the mass media nor Israel are particularly popular these days
Americans, no longer known for their enthusiasm for history, may find a story in which the “good guys” lose. A similar film might have found a response a decade or two ago, but today the image of faceless Palestinian killers and Israeli victims will no longer have the resonance it once had.

It’s like portraying the story of Custer’s murder in the Little Bighorn without going into why the Lakota and Cheyenne were angry. Sure, you could call Native Americans murderers, but if you did, you’d be missing the larger reality of treaty violations, stolen land, and genocide.
